About WisTech Open

WisTech open logo

WisTech Open is a Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) consortium that supports the development and adoption of open educational resources (OER) across Wisconsin’s technical colleges. WisTech Open works with faculty from technical/community colleges, universities, K-12, and industry partners to create high-quality, openly licensed textbooks and learning materials aligned with WTCS statewide curriculum.

By providing free and low-cost resources, WisTech Open helps reduce financial barriers for students while supporting teaching and learning with materials that are relevant, current, and adaptable. All WisTech Open resources are published with open licenses that allow instructors to retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute content to better meet the needs of their students.

About Open RN

Open RN logo

The Open RN project was initially funded $2.5 million by the U.S. Department of Education – Open Textbook Pilot grant, to create five open educational resource nursing textbooks. The project grew to include several additional textbooks and virtual simulations, funded by HEERF, the Department of Labor, Wisconsin Technical College System, and the WiLS Ideas to Action award. Content is developed by faculty based on WTCS state nursing curriculum and NCLEX-RN test plan. In 2023, the Open RN approach was broadened to include other subject areas and disciplines, spurring the creation of WisTech Open.
