Leticia Garcia 15-year-old, G1-P0, single Hispanic female delivered via cesarean due to breech presentation. The father of the baby is involved and Leticia is supported by her parents during this hospital stay. The nurse creates the following care plan:
Nursing Diagnosis: Risk for Impaired Parent-Infant Attachment related to lack of previous experience and discomfort due to cesarean section incision.
Identified Outcome: Client will demonstrate positive bonding behaviors with the newborn before discharge.
Interventions:
- Family Support: Provide emotional support and encouragement to the client and her partner in their new role as parents.
- Infant Care: Parent Newborn Attachment Promotion: Assist the client in engaging in bonding activities such as skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding.
- Teaching: Educate the client on newborn behaviors, cues, and care techniques to foster a sense of competence and confidence.
- Counseling: Address any concerns or anxieties the client has about her ability to care for the newborn and encourage open communication.
- Promotion of Attachment Behavior: Encourage the client to maintain eye contact, talk to, and hold the newborn, promoting emotional connection.
- Parent Education: Educate the client about the normal stages of infant development to enhance their understanding of the baby’s needs.
- Support Group Participation: Provide information about local support groups for new parents, where they can share experiences and receive guidance.
- Individualized Care Planning: Collaborate with the client to create a personalized plan that aligns with her preferences and values for parenting.
