The major functions of the endocrine system are long-distance intercellular communication, coordination, and control that are critical for homeostasis. Additionally, hormones of the endocrine system coordinate and control growth, metabolism, temperature regulation, the stress response, and reproduction, as well as many other functions that will be further described in the following section.
