Learning Objectives

    • Identify the gross and microscopic structural components of the nervous system
    • Correlate the structural components of the nervous system with their functions
    • Correlate cranial nerves to their respective physiological functions
    • Illustrate the relationships among the components of the nervous system
    • Summarize the functions of the nervous system
    • Identify the gross and microscopic structural components of the somatic and special senses
    • Correlate the structural components of the somatic and special senses with their functions

Introduction

Neurology is the study of the nervous system and the structure and function of all of its parts. The nervous system is very unique and complex. It is made up of many distinct parts that work together to receive information about the environment around us, interpret that information, and generate responses to that information. While the scientific community has dramatically increased our understanding of how the nervous system works, there is still so much to discover.
